Toyota Highlander high beam and low beam headlight bulbs use 9005, 9003, H11, and 9006 bulb sizes depending on generation. The replacement chart covers 2001 through 2019 model years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The 9005 bulb is the most frequently specified size across the Toyota Highlander's headlight history, appearing in both high beam positions across the 2001-2005 and 2011-2019 model years. It is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, built to the ANSI standard used in the US and Canada, and fitted with a P20d base.
The H11 bulb serves as the low beam headlight for the 2011-2019 Highlander. Unlike the ANSI-standard bulbs used elsewhere in these specifications, the H11 follows the ECE standard common in Europe and worldwide, though it carries US approval as well. It is a single-filament halogen bulb with a PGJ19-2 base, rated at 12V and 55W.
The 9003 bulb is a dual-filament halogen type, meaning a single bulb handles both high and low beam functions within one housing. It carries a P43t base and is rated at 12V with 60W on the high beam filament and 55W on the low beam filament. The 2008-2009 Highlander used the 9003 for both beam positions.
The 2010 Highlander carried a mid-year production change. Units built before August 2010 used the 9003 dual-filament bulb, while those produced from August 2010 onward switched to the 9005 for the high beam position, reflecting a change in headlight assembly design during that model year.
The 9006 bulb is specified for the low beam position on the 2001-2005 Highlander. It is a single-filament halogen bulb with a P22d base, rated at 12V and 55W, and built to the ANSI standard. Although the 9005 and 9006 share a similar wattage range, their bases differ and the two types are not interchangeable.
The P20d base of the 9005 and the P22d base of the 9006 are physically distinct, which prevents cross-installation between high beam and low beam sockets on vehicles that use separate bulbs for each function. Substituting one for the other is not supported by these specifications.
The shift from the 9003 dual-filament format in the 2008-2010 early production Highlander to separate 9005 and H11 bulbs in the 2011-2019 range indicates a transition to a two-bulb headlight system, where high and low beams are housed and replaced independently.
The 9003 bulb uses a P43t base, which is a different physical format from the P20d base of the 9005 and the PGJ19-2 base of the H11. None of these three base types are compatible with one another, making bulb selection specific to the exact model year and production date of the vehicle.
