The Yamaha XT225 headlight bulb uses a 9003 and HS1 size for both high beam and low beam functions. The replacement chart covers 1992 to 2007 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Yamaha XT225 uses two distinct bulb types across its production run: the 9003 and the HS1. Both are dual-filament halogen bulbs operating on a 12V system, and both serve the high beam and low beam functions within a single unit.
The 9003 is governed by the ANSI standard, which applies in the United States and Canada. It carries a P43t base and is rated at 60W on the high beam filament and 55W on the low beam filament.
The HS1 follows the ECE standard, which is used in Europe and other international markets. It uses a PX43t base and is rated at 35W on both filaments, making it a lower-wattage unit than the 9003.
Although the 9003 and HS1 share a similar physical size and both use a dual-filament design, their bases are not interchangeable. The P43t base of the 9003 and the PX43t base of the HS1 differ in their keying, which prevents cross-installation between the two types.
The Yamaha XT225 models from 1992-2000 use the HS1 bulb for both the high beam and low beam headlight positions.
XT225 models from 2001-2007 use the 9003 bulb for both the high beam and low beam headlight positions.
Because the 9003 operates at a higher wattage than the HS1, the two types are not electrically equivalent. Installing a 9003 in a housing designed for an HS1 could place unintended load on the motorcycle's electrical system.
The HS1 is a bulb type designed specifically for motorcycle applications, whereas the 9003 is also widely used in automotive headlight assemblies, giving it broader retail availability in North American markets.
