Volvo C70 headlight bulbs utilize H7, 9005, D3S, H11, and D2S sizes depending on beam type and model year. The replacement chart covers 1998 to 2013 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
ECE standard (Europe & worldwide). Mercury-free HID (xenon) discharge bulb with PK32d-5 base and integral ignitor, for projector-type housings. 42V, 35W.
The H7 bulb is a single-filament halogen type rated at 12V and 55W, built to ECE standards and recognized across Europe, the US, and Japan. It uses a PX26d base and serves both high beam and low beam positions in the Volvo C70 depending on the model year and headlamp system fitted.
The 9005 bulb follows the ANSI standard used in the US and Canada. It is a single-filament halogen type rated at 12V and 65W with a P20d base, making it a higher-wattage output than the H7. The two bulb types use different base configurations and are not interchangeable with each other.
The H11 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W with a PGJ19-2 base, built to ECE standards and also approved in the US. It appears exclusively in the low beam position across the C70 specifications and is not cross-compatible with H7 or 9005 bases.
The D2S is an HID xenon discharge bulb rated at 85V and 35W with a P32d-2 base, designed for projector-type housings. Unlike self-contained HID types, the D2S requires a separate external ignitor to operate, which is a critical fitment consideration for the Volvo C70 (2006-2013) models equipped with standard HID headlamps.
The D3S is a mercury-free HID xenon bulb rated at 42V and 35W with a PK32d-5 base. It incorporates an integral ignitor, distinguishing it from the D2S, which requires an external unit. Despite sharing the same wattage, the D2S and D3S use different bases and ignition configurations, making them incompatible with each other.
The C70 (2011-2013) is the only production span in these specifications where three distinct low beam bulb types, H11, D2S, and D3S, are listed simultaneously, reflecting three separate headlamp system variants available across those years.
For the 2006-2009 model years, the high beam position uses the H7 exclusively in HID-equipped vehicles, while halogen capsule variants use the 9005. This means two vehicles from the same year can require entirely different high beam bulbs depending on which headlamp system is installed.
The 1998, 2001, and 2002 model years share H7 bulbs across both high beam and low beam positions, representing the only years in these specifications where a single bulb type covers both functions.
