Toyota Solara high beam and low beam headlight bulbs utilize 9005, 9003, and 9006 sizes depending on configuration. The replacement chart covers 1999 through 2003 model years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The 9003 bulb is a dual-filament halogen type rated at 12V with a 60W high beam filament and a 55W low beam filament, using a P43t base. Its dual-filament design allows a single bulb to serve both high and low beam functions within one housing.
The Toyota Solara used the 9003 bulb for both high and low beam positions across the 1999-2000 model years, meaning a single bulb type handled the full headlight function on each side.
The 9005 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, fitted with a P20d base. The 9006 is also a single-filament halogen bulb but rated at 55W, using a P22d base. Both are ANSI-standard types for the US and Canadian markets.
For the 2002-2003 model years, the Solara moved to a split-bulb headlight arrangement, with the 9005 handling high beam duties and the 9006 handling low beam duties separately.
The 9005 and 9006 are not interchangeable with each other despite their similar construction, as they use different bases (P20d versus P22d) and operate at different wattages.
The 2001 model year reflects a mid-year specification change. Units produced before July 2001 used the 9003 dual-filament bulb for high beam, while those produced from July 2001 onward used the single-filament 9005 halogen bulb in that position.
The 9003 is not cross-compatible with either the 9005 or 9006 in a split-bulb headlight system, as its P43t base and dual-filament configuration differ from the single-filament P20d and P22d bases used by those types.
