Saturn SL1 headlight bulbs utilize 9005 size for high beam and 9006 size for low beam applications. The replacement chart covers vehicle production spanning 1991 to 2002.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Saturn SL1 uses the 9005 bulb for high beam headlights and the 9006 bulb for low beam headlights across all model years from 1991-2002, with no variation in bulb size throughout the entire production run.
The 9005 is a single-filament halogen bulb operating at 12 volts and 65 watts, built to ANSI standards recognized in both the United States and Canada.
The 9006 is also a single-filament halogen bulb operating at 12 volts, though it draws 55 watts rather than the 65 watts of the 9005, and likewise conforms to ANSI standards for the US and Canadian markets.
Although the 9005 and 9006 are both single-filament halogen bulbs sharing the same voltage rating, they are not interchangeable. The 9005 uses a P20d base while the 9006 uses a P22d base, making the two physically distinct at the socket.
The wattage difference between the two bulbs reflects their intended roles. The higher-wattage 9005 produces a more intense output suited to high beam use, while the lower-wattage 9006 is calibrated for the controlled light pattern required of low beams.
