Ram 3500 high beam headlight bulbs use 9005 or 9008 sizes, while low beam headlight bulbs use H11, 9005, or 9012 sizes. The replacement bulb size chart covers 2011 to 2024 production years.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The 9005 bulb is the most frequently specified high beam bulb across the Ram 3500, covering the 2013-2024 model years as well as the 4-headlamp configuration in 2011-2012. It is a single-filament halogen bulb operating at 12V and 65W, built to the ANSI standard used in the US and Canada, and fitted with a P20d base.
The H11 is the most frequently specified low beam bulb across these specifications. It follows the ECE standard, though it also carries US approval. It uses a PGJ19-2 base and operates at 12V and 55W, making it lower in wattage than the 9005 used in the high beam position.
The 9008 bulb is a dual-filament halogen unit, meaning a single bulb handles both high and low beam functions. It operates at 12V with separate wattage ratings of 65W for high beam and 55W for low beam, and it uses a P26t base. This differs structurally from all other bulbs in these specifications, which are single-filament types.
The Ram 3500 (2011-2012) with a 2-headlamp configuration uses the 9008 for both high and low beam positions, while the 4-headlamp configuration in the same years splits the functions between a 9005 for high beam and an H11 for low beam. These two configurations are not interchangeable.
The 9012 bulb appears in the low beam position for projector-type headlamp configurations in 2013-2015. It is classified as an enhanced halogen type under the ANSI standard, operates at 12V and 55W, and uses a PX22d base. Although its wattage matches the H11, its base type is different, and the two bulbs are not interchangeable.
In 2016-2018, the low beam specification shifted from the 9012 to the 9005 for projector-type headlamp configurations. Both are ANSI-standard single-filament halogen bulbs, but they use different base types, P20d for the 9005 and PX22d for the 9012, which prevents cross-substitution.
The 2019-2020 model years carry a headlamp-type condition in the specifications, with both high and low beam sizes listed only for halogen capsule headlamp configurations. The high beam uses a 9005 and the low beam uses an H11 under that condition.
Projector-type and non-projector-type headlamp configurations in the 2013-2018 model years require different low beam bulbs. Non-projector configurations consistently use the H11 across all those years, while projector configurations use either the 9012 or the 9005 depending on the year.
The P20d base on the 9005 and the PGJ19-2 base on the H11 are physically distinct, which means these two bulbs cannot be substituted for one another even though both are single-filament halogen types operating at 12V.
The 9008 uses a P26t base, which is unique among the bulb types in these specifications. Its dual-filament design and distinct base make it incompatible with the single-filament sockets used in the 4-headlamp configurations of the same 2011-2012 model years.
