• The H6024 is an ANSI-standard sealed beam unit used in both the high beam and low beam positions of the Porsche 911 from 1965-1986. Unlike replaceable bulb types, the entire H6024 unit is replaced as one assembly, as the lens, reflector, and filament are fused into a single sealed structure.
• The 9004 is a dual-filament halogen bulb operating at 12V with separate wattage ratings of 65W for high beam and 45W for low beam. It served both the high beam and low beam positions of the 911 from 1987-1994 and follows the ANSI standard used in the US and Canada.
• The H7 is the most frequently specified bulb type across the 911 headlight data, appearing in both high beam and low beam roles across multiple model years. It is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W, using a PX26d base, and meets ECE standards with approval also in the US and Japan.
• The Porsche 911 from 2008-2012 required different high beam bulb types depending on headlamp system. Units with Halogen Capsule Headlamps used H9 (2008-2007) or H7 with Adaptive Lighting (2009-2012), while HID-equipped units used H11 for the high beam position during those same years. H9 operates at 65W, making it the highest-wattage halogen type listed in these specifications.
• The D-series HID bulbs (D1S, D2S, D3S) are used exclusively in the low beam position across the 911 specifications. D1S and D3S include an integral ignitor within the bulb itself, while D2S requires a separate external ignitor. All three are rated at 35W but differ in operating voltage and base type.
• A transition from D2S to D3S low beam bulbs occurred between the 2012 and 2013 Porsche 911. The D3S is a mercury-free formulation designed for projector-type housings, whereas the D2S contains mercury and requires an external ignitor. These two bulb types are not interchangeable due to differences in base configuration and ignition design.
• For the 2008-2007 911 with HID Headlamps, the low beam used a D1S bulb, which was replaced by D2S in the 2009-2012 range. D1S and D2S share the same 85V operating voltage and 35W rating but use different base types, PK32d-2 and P32d-2 respectively, making them physically incompatible with each other's housings.
• The H1 bulb, used in the high beam and low beam positions of the 911 from 1995-1998, uses a P14.5s single-pin base. It is not interchangeable with H7, H9, or H11 bulbs despite sharing the same 12V operating voltage, as each of those types uses a distinct base configuration.
