The 9007 bulb is the most widely used type across the Pontiac Grand Am's headlight specifications, serving as both the high beam and low beam source in a single dual-filament unit for the 1999-2005 model years. It operates on a PX29t base at 12V, with filaments rated at 65W for high beam and 55W for low beam.
Because the 9007 handles both high and low beam functions within one bulb, the Grand Am (1999-2005) requires only a single headlight bulb per side rather than separate bulbs for each function.
From 1990-1998, the Grand Am used separate bulbs for each beam function: the 9005 (65W, P20d base) for high beam and the 9006 (55W, P22d base) for low beam. Although the 9005 and 9006 share a similar single-filament halogen design, their base types differ and the two are not interchangeable.
The 9004 dual-filament halogen bulb, used on 1987-1989 models equipped with halogen capsule headlamps, operates at 12V with a 65W high beam filament and a 45W low beam filament on a P29t base. Its lower wattage on the low beam filament distinguishes it from the later 9007, which produces 55W on the low beam.
For 1987-1989 models equipped with sealed beam headlamps rather than halogen capsule units, the high beam position used the H4651 and the low beam position used the H4652. Both are 4x6-inch rectangular sealed beam units in which the entire lens-and-filament assembly is replaced as one piece rather than as a separate bulb.
The H4651 and H4652 are variants of the same 4x6-inch rectangular sealed beam format. The H4651 is specified for the high beam position and the H4652 for the low beam position on the same vehicle, meaning the two units are not interchangeable with each other despite sharing the same physical housing shape.
The 1985 low beam specification is the only entry in the dataset that calls for the H4656, a 4x6-inch rectangular sealed beam unit distinct from the H4652 used in the same position on 1986-1989 sealed beam vehicles. The 1986 high beam position used the H4651, while the 1985 low beam used the H4656 rather than the H4652.
