• The Peterbilt 389 uses the 9005 bulb for high beam and the H11 bulb for low beam across the 2011-2017 model years. These two bulbs are not interchangeable with each other, as the 9005 uses a P20d base while the H11 uses a PGJ19-2 base.
• The 9005 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, conforming to the ANSI standard used in the United States and Canada. Its single filament means it serves only one lighting function, which is why a separate low beam bulb is required alongside it.
• The H11 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W. It originates from the ECE standard used in Europe and worldwide but carries approval for use in the United States as well.
• The 9004 bulb, used on the Peterbilt 389 in 2008-2009 with halogen capsule headlamps, is a dual-filament halogen bulb rated at 65W for high beam and 45W for low beam. Its P29t base and dual-filament design allow a single bulb to serve both high and low beam functions within one housing.
• For 2008-2009 models equipped with 2 rectangular headlamps, the H6054 is specified for both high and low beam positions. The H6054 is a 5x7-inch rectangular sealed beam unit, meaning the lens, reflector, and filament form a single assembly that is replaced as a whole rather than as an individual bulb.
• The H4651, H4656, and H4652 are all 4x6-inch rectangular sealed beam units conforming to the ANSI standard. Like the H6054, none of these accept a replaceable bulb; the entire sealed unit is replaced upon failure.
