• The 9005 bulb is the most frequently specified high beam type across the Nissan Quest, covering model years 2004-2017 with the exception of 2010. It is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 65 watts, operating in the P20d base configuration, and is widely used in high beam applications across the automotive industry.
• The 9007 bulb served as the sole headlight type for the Nissan Quest from 1996-2002, handling both high and low beam functions through a dual-filament design within a single housing. This arrangement means one bulb per headlight assembly performs both lighting functions, which distinguishes it from single-filament configurations that require separate bulbs for each function.
• The 9004 bulb, specified for the 1993-1995 Quest, is also a dual-filament halogen type, similar in function to the 9007 but electrically incompatible with it due to differences in wattage ratings and connector configuration. The 9004 operates at 45 watts on low beam and 65 watts on high beam, while the 9007 operates at 55 watts and 65 watts respectively.
• For model years 2011-2017, the Nissan Quest low beam specification splits into two distinct options depending on the headlamp system installed. Vehicles equipped with halogen capsule headlamps use the H11 bulb, while those equipped with HID headlamps use the D2S bulb. These two types are not interchangeable.
• The D2S is a High-Intensity Discharge bulb that produces light through an electrical arc between two electrodes within a gas-filled quartz capsule, rather than through a heated filament. It requires a ballast unit to regulate the high-voltage ignition and operating current, meaning the surrounding headlamp system must be specifically designed for HID operation.
• The H11 is a single-filament halogen bulb using an L-shaped PGJ19-2 base. It is rated at 55 watts and is designated exclusively for low beam use. Because it is a single-filament type, the 2011-2017 Quest with halogen headlamps uses a separate 9005 bulb to handle the high beam function independently.
• The 9006 bulb, specified for low beam on the 2004-2009 Quest, is a single-filament halogen type rated at 55 watts with an HB4 designation. Although the 9005 and 9006 share a physically similar form, they carry different tab positions on their bases, which prevents a 9005 high beam bulb from being inserted into a 9006 low beam socket without modification.
• From 1993-2002, the Quest used the same bulb part number for both high and low beam positions because the 9004 and 9007 types each contain dual filaments within a single unit. Starting with the 2004 model year, the specifications diverge into separate part numbers for high and low beam, reflecting a transition to a split-function headlamp system using individual single-filament bulbs.
• The 9005 and 9006 bulbs belong to the same SAE/ECE family and share a base that is physically similar, but they are not rated for the same beam position. Installing a 9005 in a low beam housing designed for a 9006 is considered an improper fitment, as the 9005 is calibrated for high beam light distribution and operates at a higher wattage that may exceed the housing's thermal tolerance.
• The D2S designation indicates a projector-specific HID bulb with a shielded arc tube, intended for use in projector-style headlamp housings. It is distinct from the D2R type, which is designed for reflector housings. Substituting a D2R for a D2S in a projector housing, or vice versa, produces incorrect light distribution and is not a valid interchange.
