Nissan GT-R high beam headlight bulbs use H9 size while low beam headlight bulbs use D2S size. The replacement chart contains vehicle production years and bulb size specifications spanning 2009 to 2014.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Nissan GT-R uses the H9 bulb for high beam headlights across all listed model years, 2009-2014. The H9 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, built to the ECE standard used in Europe and worldwide, and also approved for use in the United States. Its base type is PGJ19-5.
The low beam headlight on the Nissan GT-R uses the D2S bulb for all listed model years, 2009-2014. The D2S is an HID (high-intensity discharge) xenon bulb rated at 85V and 35W, also conforming to the ECE standard.
The D2S bulb carries a P32d-2 base and is designed specifically for projector-type headlight housings. It requires an external ignitor to operate, which is a separate component from the bulb itself and must be present in the vehicle's headlight assembly for the bulb to function.
The high beam and low beam positions on the GT-R use fundamentally different bulb technologies: halogen for high beams and HID xenon for low beams. These two types are not interchangeable with each other, as they differ in base type, operating voltage, wattage, and required supporting hardware.
The H9 bulb's 65W rating is notably higher than the D2S bulb's 35W rating. Despite the lower wattage, HID xenon bulbs such as the D2S produce significantly more light output than halogen bulbs, which accounts for their use in the low beam position where precise light control through a projector housing is required.
The D2S designation indicates a shielded HID bulb, meaning it includes an integrated UV-blocking glass shield around the arc tube. This shield is a defining feature of the D2S type and is necessary for use in projector housings where the bulb's arc is directly exposed to the optical system.
