• The 9005 bulb is the high beam headlight fitment for the Mitsubishi Outlander across the 2005-2020 model years. It is a single-filament halogen bulb operating at 65 watts with a P20d base, belonging to the HB3 family under international classification.
• The 2003-2004 Outlander uses the 9007 bulb for the high beam position. The 9007 is a dual-filament bulb that serves both high and low beam functions within a single housing, which is a fundamentally different design from the single-filament 9005 used in later model years.
• Because the 9005 and 9007 are not interchangeable, the high beam fitment changed between the 2004 and 2005 model years represents a hard compatibility boundary. A 9005 bulb cannot be substituted into a 9007 socket without modification, as the base configurations differ.
• The low beam headlight for the 2003-2004 Outlander also uses the 9007 bulb, meaning both the high and low beam functions are handled by a single dual-filament bulb per side in those model years.
• From 2005-2006, the low beam shifted to the H1 bulb, a single-filament halogen type with a P14.5s base rated at 55 watts. The H1 is not compatible with 9006 or H7 sockets, making it specific to the headlamp assemblies used in those two model years.

The H7 uses a PX26d base and is not interchangeable with the 9006, so the headlamp assembly design changed between the 2013 and 2014 model years for halogen variants.
• The D2S bulb is the HID low beam fitment for the Outlander from 2010-2015. D2S is a discharge arc bulb with an integrated igniter, operating at 35 watts and producing significantly higher luminous output than halogen equivalents. The "S" designation indicates it is designed for use in projector-style headlamp housings.
• For the 2007-2009 model years, HID-equipped Outlanders use the D2R bulb rather than the D2S. The D2R is also a 35-watt discharge bulb with an integrated igniter, but its "R" designation indicates it is intended for reflector-style housings. A D2R bulb has a black band coating to prevent internal glare within reflector assemblies, and it is not a correct substitute for a D2S in a projector housing, nor vice versa.
• The low beam position on the Outlander shows three distinct HID bulb transitions across its HID-equipped years: D2R for 2007-2009 and D2S for 2010-2015, while the halogen low beam shifted from 9006 to H7 between the 2013 and 2014 model years.
