• The 9003 bulb is the most widely used type across the Mitsubishi Mirage headlight specifications, appearing in both high and low beam positions across the majority of model years covered. It is a dual-filament halogen bulb operating at 12V with a 60W high beam filament and a 55W low beam filament, fitted with a P43t base, and built to the ANSI standard used in the United States and Canada.
• Because the 9003 serves both the high and low beam functions within a single bulb, the Mitsubishi Mirage (2020-2022) requires only one bulb type per headlight housing to cover both beam positions.
• The H6054 is a 5x7-inch rectangular sealed beam unit used on the Mitsubishi Mirage from 1985-1987. Unlike the other bulb types in these specifications, it is not a replaceable capsule bulb. The entire sealed unit, which integrates the lens, reflector, and filament into one assembly, is replaced as a whole when it fails.
• The 9004 bulb, used on the Mirage from 1993-1996 and again in 1988, is a dual-filament halogen bulb with a P29t base rated at 12V, 65W for high beam and 45W for low beam. Its base type differs from the 9003, making the two bulbs physically incompatible with each other despite both being dual-filament designs.
• The 1989-1992 Mirage used separate single-filament bulbs for high and low beams rather than a single dual-filament unit. The high beam position used the 9005, a 12V, 65W single-filament bulb with a P20d base, while the low beam position used the 9006, a 12V, 55W single-filament bulb with a P22d base. These two bulbs are not interchangeable with each other.
• For the 2017-2019 Mitsubishi Mirage, the headlight bulb type depended on which headlamp system was installed at the factory. Vehicles equipped with halogen capsule headlamps used the 9003 bulb, while those equipped with HID headlamps required a discharge bulb type instead.
• The D2S and D4S are both HID xenon discharge bulbs rated at 85V and 42V respectively, each producing 35W, and both are designed for projector-type housings. However, they use different base types and are not interchangeable. The D2S, used on the 2017-2018 Mirage with HID headlamps, requires an external ignitor as part of the system. The D4S, used on the 2019 Mirage with HID headlamps, is a mercury-free formulation built to the ECE standard.
• The shift from D2S on the 2017-2018 Mirage to D4S on the 2019 Mirage represents a change in HID bulb specification between those model years. The two types carry different base designations, P32d-2 for the D2S and P32d-5 for the D4S, and are not physically interchangeable.
• All bulb types listed in these specifications follow either the ANSI standard, which governs products for the United States and Canadian markets, or the ECE standard, which applies to European and broader international markets. The HID types, D2S and D4S, fall under the ECE standard, while all halogen and sealed beam types in the specifications follow the ANSI standard.
• The 9003 and 9004 are both dual-filament halogen bulbs, but they differ in base type, wattage ratings, and physical form. The 9003 uses a P43t base and is rated at 60W/55W, while the 9004 uses a P29t base and is rated at 65W/45W. These differences mean the two types cannot be substituted for one another in a given housing.
