The Mercury Villager uses the 9007 bulb for both high and low beam headlights across the 1996-2002 model years. The 9007 is a dual-filament halogen bulb operating at 12V, with a high beam output of 65W and a low beam output of 55W, fitted with a PX29t base.
The 1993-1995 Mercury Villager uses the 9004 bulb for both high and low beam positions. Like the 9007, it is a dual-filament halogen unit running at 12V, but its wattage ratings differ at 65W for high beam and 45W for low beam, and it uses a P29t base rather than the PX29t found on the 9007.
The base type difference between the 9007 (PX29t) and the 9004 (P29t) means these two bulbs are not interchangeable, despite sharing a similar dual-filament halogen design and identical voltage rating. Installing the wrong type risks improper fitment and incorrect beam function.
The 1962-1967 model years use sealed beam units rather than replaceable bulbs. The high beam position takes the H5001, a 4-inch square sealed beam unit, while the low beam position takes the H5006, a 5.75-inch round sealed beam unit. Both operate at 12V.
Because the H5001 and H5006 are sealed beam units, the entire assembly is replaced when the light fails, rather than just an internal bulb. This is a fundamental structural difference from the halogen bulbs used in later model years.
