The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter headlight bulb size chart specifies high beam and low beam bulb options including H15, D3S, H7, and D1S sizes across multiple generations. The replacement chart covers 2010 to 2025 vehicle production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
ECE standard (Europe & worldwide). Mercury-free HID (xenon) discharge bulb with PK32d-5 base and integral ignitor, for projector-type housings. 42V, 35W.
The H15 is a dual-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V with a 55W main filament and a 15W secondary filament, fitted with a PGJ23t-1 base. Its dual-filament design allows it to serve both high beam and daytime running light functions within a single bulb, which is why the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter uses it exclusively for the high beam position in 2021-2025 models.
The H7 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V, 55W, with a PX26d base. It is the most frequently recurring bulb across the Sprinter specifications, appearing in both high beam and low beam positions across halogen-equipped models from 2010 through 2025.
The D3S is a mercury-free HID xenon discharge bulb rated at 42V, 35W, with a PK32d-5 base and an integral ignitor. It is designed specifically for projector-type housings and serves both high beam and low beam functions in HID-equipped Sprinter models from 2014 through 2018.
The D1S is an HID xenon discharge bulb rated at 85V, 35W, with a PK32d-2 base and an integral ignitor, also requiring a projector-type housing. It appears in HID-equipped Sprinter models from 2010 through 2013 in both the high beam and low beam positions.
The D1S and D3S are not interchangeable despite sharing the same 35W power rating. Their base types differ, with the D1S using a PK32d-2 base and the D3S using a PK32d-5 base, and their operating voltages differ substantially at 85V and 42V respectively.
From 2019 onward, the Sprinter's high beam position shifted from H7 to H15 in halogen-equipped variants. The H7 and H15 use different base types, PX26d and PGJ23t-1 respectively, making them physically incompatible with each other's housings.
In 2018, the Sprinter's HID configuration transitioned from D1S to D3S for both high beam and low beam positions. These two bulb types share the same wattage but differ in base design and operating voltage, so they are not substitutable for one another.
For model years 2010-2018, the Sprinter was offered with either halogen or HID headlamp systems, and the correct bulb type depends on which headlamp system is installed on the specific vehicle. Selecting the wrong type for the installed housing would result in an incompatible fitment.
All four bulb types in these specifications, H15, H7, D3S, and D1S, conform to ECE standards, indicating they are approved for use in Europe and other markets that follow ECE regulations. The H7 additionally carries approval in the United States and Japan.
The HID bulbs in these specifications, both D1S and D3S, include integral ignitors as part of the bulb assembly. This means the ignitor is replaced along with the bulb, unlike some HID systems where the ignitor is a separate, externally mounted component.
