The Mercedes-Benz CL550 headlight bulb specifications include H11 and H7 sizes for high beam applications, along with D1S and D2S sizes for low beam functions. The replacement chart covers 2007 to 2014 model years with corresponding bulb size data for each production year.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The H11 and H7 bulb types are the two halogen formats used in the high beam position of the Mercedes-Benz CL550, with H11 fitted to 2011-2014 models and H7 fitted to 2007-2010 models. Both operate at 12V and 55W and use a single-filament design, though they differ in base configuration: H11 uses a PGJ19-2 base while H7 uses a PX26d base.
Because H11 and H7 bulbs carry different base types, they are not interchangeable with each other despite sharing identical voltage and wattage ratings. A bulb intended for a 2007-2010 high beam socket will not physically fit a 2011-2014 socket, and vice versa.
The low beam position across all CL550 model years uses HID xenon discharge bulbs rather than halogen. Both D1S and D2S types operate at 85V and 35W, which is substantially higher in voltage than the 12V halogen bulbs used in the high beam position.
The D1S and D2S bulbs share the same wattage and voltage but differ in a functionally significant way: the D1S incorporates an integral ignitor within the bulb itself, while the D2S requires a separate, externally mounted ignitor. This distinction makes the two types incompatible with each other despite their similar electrical ratings.
The Mercedes-Benz CL550 transitioned from D2S to D1S in the low beam position between the 2008 and 2011 model years, with D2S fitted to 2007-2009 models and D1S fitted to 2010-2014 models.
Both D1S and D2S bulbs are designed specifically for projector-type housings. Their base configurations also differ: D1S uses a PK32d-2 base, while D2S uses a P32d-2 base, which physically prevents cross-installation between the two types.
All four bulb types used across the CL550 lineup conform to ECE standards, which are recognized in Europe and internationally. The H11 and H7 halogen types additionally carry approval for use in the United States, with H7 also approved in Japan.
