The 9005 bulb is the most frequently specified high beam type across the Mazda 6 range, appearing in model years 2011-2017 for halogen-equipped variants. It is an ANSI-standard single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, fitted with a P20d base.
The H1 bulb served as both the high beam and low beam source in the Mazda 6 for model years 2003-2008 in halogen configurations. Operating at 12V and 55W with a P14.5s base, it is an ECE-standard single-filament halogen type recognized in the US and Japan.
The D2S bulb is the HID low beam type used in the Mazda 6 from 2006-2013 in HID-equipped variants. It operates at 85V and 35W, uses a P32d-2 base, and requires a separate external ignitor. It is designed exclusively for projector-type housings.
The D4S bulb replaced the D2S as the HID type for both high and low beam positions in 2014-2015 HID-equipped variants. Unlike the D2S, the D4S is mercury-free, operates at 42V and 35W, and uses a P32d-5 base, making the two types electrically and physically incompatible with each other.
