• The 9005 bulb is the most consistently used high beam type across the Lincoln Town Car specifications, appearing in every model year from 2003-2011. It is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, built to the ANSI standard for the US and Canadian markets, and uses a P20d base.
• The 9007 bulb serves as both the high beam and low beam source in the 1995-2002 Town Car, functioning as a dual-beam unit through its two filaments. It operates at 12V with a 65W high beam filament and a 55W low beam filament, uses a PX29t base, and conforms to the ANSI standard.
• The 9004 bulb similarly handles both high and low beam functions in the 1990-1994 Town Car. It is a dual-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V, with a 65W high beam filament and a 45W low beam filament, and uses a P29t base under the ANSI standard.
• From 2003-2011, the Lincoln Town Car low beam position accommodates two distinct and non-interchangeable bulb types depending on headlamp system. Vehicles fitted with halogen capsule headlamps use the H7 bulb, while those equipped with HID headlamps use the D1R bulb.
• The H7 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W with a PX26d base, built to the ECE standard but also approved for use in the US and Japan. The D1R is a high-intensity discharge xenon bulb rated at 85V and 35W, uses a PK32d-3 base with an integral ignitor, and is designed specifically for reflector-type housings.
• Because the D1R incorporates an integral ignitor and operates at 85V, it is electrically and physically incompatible with the H7 halogen position. The two bulb types are not interchangeable, and the correct type is determined solely by the headlamp system installed on the vehicle.
• The 1981-1989 Town Car used rectangular sealed beam headlamp units rather than replaceable bulbs. The H4651 type covers the high beam position across all those years, while the low beam position used H4652 in most years, with H4656 specified for 1986-1987. All three are 4x6-inch rectangular sealed beam units built to the ANSI standard, and in each case the entire unit is replaced rather than an internal bulb.
• The 9007 and 9004 bulbs share a dual-filament design but differ in base type and wattage ratings, making them incompatible with each other. The 9007 uses a PX29t base and a 65W/55W rating, while the 9004 uses a P29t base and a 65W/45W rating.
