Lincoln Navigator high beam and low beam headlight bulbs utilize sizes D3S, 9005, 9007, 9006, and D1R depending on model generation. The replacement chart covers 1998 through 2018 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
ECE standard (Europe & worldwide). Mercury-free HID (xenon) discharge bulb with PK32d-5 base and integral ignitor, for projector-type housings. 42V, 35W.
The D3S bulb is an ECE-standard, mercury-free HID xenon type rated at 42V and 35W, fitted with a PK32d-5 base and an integral ignitor. It is designed specifically for projector-type housings and serves as both the high beam and low beam bulb in the Lincoln Navigator across the 2007-2018 model years.
The D1R bulb is an ECE-standard HID xenon type rated at 85V and 35W, fitted with a PK32d-3 base and an integral ignitor. Unlike the D3S, it is designed for reflector-type housings and appears only in the low beam position on 2003-2006 Navigator models equipped with the HID headlamp option.
Although the D1R and D3S bulbs share the same 35W power rating, their base types, operating voltages, and housing compatibility are different. The two types are not interchangeable with each other.
The 9007 bulb is an ANSI-standard dual-filament halogen type rated at 12V with separate wattage values of 65W for high beam and 55W for low beam, using a PX29t base. In the Lincoln Navigator (1998-2002), a single 9007 bulb serves both the high beam and low beam functions within the same housing.
The 9005 and 9006 bulbs are both ANSI-standard single-filament halogen types, but they carry different wattage ratings and base types. The 9005 operates at 65W with a P20d base, while the 9006 operates at 55W with a P22d base, making them non-interchangeable despite their similar form.
On the Lincoln Navigator (2003-2006), the low beam position accommodates two distinct bulb types depending on the headlamp system installed. Halogen Capsule Headlamp-equipped vehicles use the 9006, while HID Headlamp-equipped vehicles use the D1R. The high beam position on those same years uses only the 9005 halogen bulb regardless of headlamp type.
The transition from the dual-filament 9007 to separate single-filament bulbs for high and low beams occurred between the 2002 and 2003 model years, reflecting a change in headlamp housing architecture.
The integral ignitor present on both the D3S and D1R bulbs is a built-in component that initiates the high-voltage arc required to strike the xenon discharge. This distinguishes HID bulbs from halogen types, which require no such starting mechanism.
