The D3S bulb is a mercury-free HID xenon type operating at 42V and 35W, built to ECE standards with a PK32d-5 base and an integral ignitor. It is specified for both high beam and low beam positions on the Lincoln MKZ for the 2017-2020 model years, exclusively in vehicles equipped with HID headlamps.
The D1S bulb is an earlier HID xenon type rated at 85V and 35W, also carrying an integral ignitor and a PK32d-2 base. It appears in the low beam position on the Lincoln MKZ for 2007-2009 model years when fitted with HID headlamps, distinguishing it from the D3S used in later years.
Although both D1S and D3S bulbs share the same 35W power rating and integral ignitor design, their base types differ: PK32d-2 for the D1S and PK32d-5 for the D3S. These bases are not interchangeable, and substituting one for the other is not supported by the specifications.
