Land Rover LR2 headlight bulbs utilize D1S and H7 sizes for high beam applications, while low beam configurations employ D1S and H11 bulb sizes. The replacement chart documents specifications across the 2008 to 2015 production range.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The D1S bulb is a high-intensity discharge (HID) xenon type rated at 85V and 35W. Unlike halogen bulbs, it produces light through an electrical arc between two electrodes within a xenon gas-filled quartz capsule rather than through a heated filament. It uses a PK32d-2 base and includes an integral ignitor, making it specific to projector-type headlamp housings.
The H7 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W, fitted with a PX26d base. The H11 is also a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W but uses a PGJ19-2 base. Despite sharing the same voltage and wattage ratings, the two bulbs are not interchangeable due to their different base configurations.
On the Land Rover LR2, the high beam headlight position accepts either a D1S or an H7 bulb for model years 2011-2015, depending on whether the vehicle is equipped with HID or halogen capsule headlamps. For 2008-2010, only the H7 is specified for high beam.
The low beam headlight position on the LR2 accepts either a D1S or an H11 across all model years from 2008-2015, again depending on headlamp system type. This means the low beam housing accommodates HID projection optics or halogen capsule optics as separate configurations.
All three bulb types listed, D1S, H7, and H11, conform to ECE standards, which govern lighting equipment across Europe and much of the world. The H7 and H11 also carry approval in the United States, while the H11 is additionally approved in Japan.
The D1S operates at 85 volts, which is substantially higher than the 12-volt supply used by the H7 and H11 halogen bulbs. This elevated operating voltage is a defining characteristic of HID systems and requires dedicated ballast and ignitor components within the headlamp assembly.
Because the D1S includes an integral ignitor as part of its construction, it is not a drop-in replacement for halogen bulb positions. Vehicles fitted with halogen capsule headlamps use housings and wiring that are incompatible with D1S bulbs without significant modification to the headlamp system.
For 2011-2015 model years, the LR2 high beam circuit uses the D1S in HID-equipped vehicles, meaning the same D1S bulb type serves both high and low beam functions within a single projector-type housing, a configuration common to bi-xenon projector systems.
