Kawasaki ZX1400 Ninja ZX-14R ABS Turn Signal Bulb Size
The Kawasaki ZX1400 Ninja ZX-14R ABS uses 12496 and PY21W bulb sizes for both front and rear turn signal applications. The replacement chart covers 2013 through 2020 model years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The two bulb types specified across all model years of the Kawasaki ZX1400 Ninja ZX-14R ABS are the 12496 and the PY21W. Both operate at 12 volts and are halogen single-filament designs intended for turn signal use.
The PY21W is defined by the ECE lighting standard and carries a BAU15s bayonet base, which is an offset-pin base that prevents substitution with standard BA15s-based bulbs. Its rated output is 21 watts, and it produces amber light inherently through its glass envelope rather than through a lens filter.
The 12496 is a part number used by Philips and Osram to designate a specialty halogen bulb for this type of application. It operates at 12 volts, consistent with the motorcycle's electrical system.
Because the PY21W uses a BAU15s base and the 12496 is a specialty halogen type, the two bulbs are not interchangeable. Substituting one for the other would require a base adapter at minimum and could affect light output or circuit behavior.
For the front turn signal on the ZX1400 Ninja ZX-14R ABS, the 12496 is specified for the 2013-2015 and 2017-2020 model years, while the PY21W is specified for 2016 only.
For the rear turn signal, the PY21W is specified for 2013-2016, and the 12496 is specified for 2017-2020, with 2015 and 2014 also using the PY21W at the rear position.
The 2016 model year is the only year in which both the front and rear turn signals share the same bulb type, with PY21W specified at both positions.
The front and rear turn signal positions do not always share the same bulb type within a given model year. The 2015 model year, for instance, specifies the 12496 at the front and the PY21W at the rear, requiring two different bulb types to be stocked for a full replacement.
