Kawasaki VN1700 Vulcan 1700 Nomad Turn Signal Bulb Size
The Kawasaki VN1700 Vulcan 1700 Nomad uses a P21/5W bulb size for front turn signals and a P21W bulb size for rear turn signals. The replacement chart covers 2009 through 2013 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Kawasaki VN1700 Vulcan 1700 Nomad uses two distinct bulb types across its front and rear turn signal positions for the 2009-2013 model years: the P21/5W at the front and the P21W at the rear.
The P21/5W is a dual-filament bulb operating at 12V with a 21W main filament and a 5W secondary filament, mounted on a BAY15d offset-pin bayonet base. The offset pins prevent incorrect installation by ensuring the bulb seats in only one orientation.
The P21W is a single-filament bulb rated at 12V and 21W, using a BA15s single-contact bayonet base. Its single-filament design means it serves a dedicated on/off signalling function without a secondary running-light role.
Both bulb types conform to ECE standards, a regulatory framework recognized across Europe and numerous other markets worldwide, governing output, base tolerances, and photometric performance.
The front and rear turn signal positions use different base types, BAY15d and BA15s respectively, which are physically incompatible with each other. A P21W cannot be seated in a BAY15d socket, and a P21/5W cannot be seated in a BA15s socket.
Although the P21/5W and P21W share the same 21W primary wattage and the same 12V operating voltage, substituting one for the other is not possible due to the differing base configurations and filament counts.
