Kawasaki VN1700 Vulcan 1700 Classic Turn Signal Bulb Size
The Kawasaki VN1700 Vulcan 1700 Classic uses a P21/5W bulb size for front turn signals and a P21W bulb size for rear turn signals. The replacement chart covers 2009 through 2012 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Kawasaki VN1700 Vulcan 1700 Classic uses two distinct bulb types across its turn signal positions for the 2009-2012 model years: P21/5W at the front and P21W at the rear.
The P21/5W is a dual-filament bulb rated at 12V with a 21W main filament and a 5W secondary filament, mounted on a BAY15d offset-pin bayonet base. The offset pins prevent incorrect insertion of the bulb into the socket.
The P21W is a single-filament bulb rated at 12V, 21W, and uses a BA15s single-contact bayonet base with symmetrically placed pins.
Both bulb types conform to ECE regulations, a signalling and lighting standard recognized across Europe and numerous other markets worldwide.
The BAY15d base of the P21/5W and the BA15s base of the P21W are physically incompatible with each other. The front and rear sockets are not interchangeable, and substituting one bulb type for the other is not possible without modification.
The dual-filament configuration of the P21/5W front bulb allows it to serve more than one lighting function from a single unit, whereas the single-filament P21W at the rear is dedicated to a single function.
