• The D3S bulb is the most widely used type across the Jaguar XKR headlight specifications, appearing in both high beam and low beam positions for the 2010-2015 model years. It is a mercury-free HID xenon discharge bulb operating at 42V and 35W, fitted with a PK32d-5 base and an integral ignitor, and is designed exclusively for projector-type housings.
• The D1S bulb shares the same 35W power draw as the D3S but operates at a significantly higher voltage of 85V. It uses a PK32d-2 base with an integral ignitor and is also restricted to projector-type housings. The Jaguar XKR used this bulb in both high beam and low beam positions for the 2007-2009 model years.
• The D2S, used in the low beam position on 2000-2002 XKR models equipped with HID headlamps, differs from the D1S and D3S in that it requires an external ignitor rather than an integrated one. It shares the 85V, 35W operating specification with the D1S but uses a P32d-2 base.
• For the 2000-2006 model years, the Jaguar XKR low beam position offered two distinct bulb options depending on headlamp type. Halogen capsule headlamp configurations used the H1 bulb, while HID headlamp configurations used either D2S or D1S, making headlamp system type a critical factor in determining the correct replacement bulb.
• The H1 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W, using a P14.5s base. It carries ECE certification and is also approved for use in the United States and Japan, giving it broader regional acceptance than the 9005.
• The 9005 is an ANSI-standard single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W with a P20d base. Its standardization is specific to the US and Canada. On the Jaguar XKR, it served as the high beam bulb for the 2000-2004 and 2006 model years, with the 2005 high beam position using the H1 instead.
• The integral ignitor present in both the D1S and D3S bulbs means the ignition component is built directly into the bulb assembly, whereas the D2S relies on a separate ignitor housed within the vehicle's headlamp system. Substituting one HID type for another without accounting for this difference would result in an incompatible fitment.
• All three HID bulb types used across the XKR specifications, the D1S, D2S, and D3S, are rated at 35W and conform to ECE standards, but their differing base types and ignitor configurations make them non-interchangeable with one another despite the shared wattage.
