The Jaguar XK8 high beam headlight uses a 9005 bulb size while low beam headlights accommodate H1, D1S, or D2S bulb sizes depending on configuration. The replacement chart covers 1997 to 2006 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications for each model year.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The H1 bulb is the most frequently specified type across the Jaguar XK8 headlight data, appearing in low beam positions across all model years from 1997-2006 and in the high beam position for the 2003 and 2005 model years. It follows the ECE standard and operates on a single filament with a P14.5s base at 12V and 55W.
The 9005 bulb holds the high beam position for the majority of XK8 model years, covering 1997-2002, 2004, and 2006. It follows the ANSI standard used in the US and Canada, featuring a single filament with a P20d base rated at 12V and 65W, drawing 10W more than the H1.
The high beam specification for the Jaguar XK8 alternates between the 9005 and H1 types across certain model years, meaning these two bulbs are not interchangeable with each other despite both being single-filament halogen types. Their base fittings, P20d and P14.5s respectively, are physically incompatible.
From 2000-2006, the XK8 low beam position accommodates two distinct headlamp systems: halogen capsule housings using the H1 bulb and HID housings requiring a discharge bulb. The correct replacement depends entirely on which headlamp system the vehicle was built with.
Two different HID bulb types appear in the low beam specifications. The D1S, specified for 2003-2006, incorporates an integral ignitor and uses a PK32d-2 base. The D2S, specified for 2000-2002, requires a separate external ignitor and uses a P32d-2 base. Both operate at 85V and 35W but are not interchangeable due to differing base designs and ignition configurations.
The transition from D2S to D1S in the low beam HID specification occurred between the 2002 and 2003 model years. Substituting one for the other is not supported by the specifications, as the integral ignitor of the D1S makes it a fundamentally different component from the D2S.
The D1S and D2S are both ECE-standard HID xenon discharge bulbs intended for projector-type housings. Their high operating voltage of 85V stands in significant contrast to the 12V supply used by the halogen H1 and 9005 types, reflecting the fundamentally different electrical systems required for HID operation.
For the 1997-1999 model years, the low beam specification lists only the H1 bulb with no HID variant, while the high beam for 1997-1999 is covered exclusively by the 9005.
