• The D3S and D1S bulbs are both HID (xenon) discharge types rated at 35W, but they operate at different voltages. The D3S runs at 42V while the D1S runs at 85V, and each uses a distinct base type, making them electrically and physically incompatible with one another despite their similar wattage.
• Both the D3S and D1S are designed specifically for projector-type housings and include an integral ignitor as part of the bulb assembly. This means the ignitor is not a separate component in the headlight system when either of these bulb types is fitted.
• The D3S is a mercury-free formulation, which distinguishes it from earlier HID bulb generations that contained mercury as part of the arc discharge medium.
