Harley-Davidson VRSCD/VRSCDX Night Rod Headlight Bulb Size
Harley-Davidson VRSCD/VRSCDX Night Rod headlight bulbs utilize H9 and H11 sizes, with the high beam requiring an H9 bulb and the low beam requiring an H11 bulb. The replacement chart covers 2006 to 2017 model years and contains vehicle production years alongside corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Harley-Davidson VRSCD/VRSCDX Night Rod uses three distinct halogen bulb types across its headlight system: H9, H11, and 9003. All three operate on a 12-volt electrical system, making them compatible with standard motorcycle electrical architecture.
The 9003 bulb follows the ANSI standard used in the US and Canada. It is a dual-filament halogen bulb with a P43t base, rated at 60W on high beam and 55W on low beam. Its dual-filament design means a single 9003 bulb serves both high and low beam functions within one housing.
For the 2006-2011 model years, the Night Rod uses the 9003 bulb for both the high beam and low beam headlight positions. Because the 9003 carries both filaments, it functions as a single-bulb solution for the entire headlight assembly during those years.
The H9 follows the ECE standard, which applies across Europe and worldwide, and carries approval for use in the US as well. It is a single-filament halogen bulb with a PGJ19-5 base, rated at 65W. Its single-filament construction means it is dedicated exclusively to high beam output.
The H11 also follows the ECE standard and shares the single-filament halogen design. It uses a PGJ19-2 base and is rated at 55W, dedicated to low beam output. Despite both being ECE single-filament bulbs, the H9 and H11 use different base types and are not interchangeable with each other.
For the 2012-2017 model years, the Night Rod separates high and low beam functions into two distinct bulb types: H9 for high beam and H11 for low beam. This represents a departure from the dual-filament 9003 arrangement used in earlier years, where a single bulb handled both functions.
The base type difference between the H9 (PGJ19-5) and the 9003 (P43t) means these bulbs are physically incompatible with each other's sockets. Substituting one for the other is not possible without modification to the housing or wiring.
The H11's PGJ19-2 base also differs from the P43t base of the 9003, reinforcing that the post-2011 low beam socket is not compatible with the bulb type used in the 2006-2011 configuration.
