Harley-Davidson FLHT Electra Glide Standard Headlight Bulb Size
Harley-Davidson FLHT Electra Glide Standard headlight bulbs utilize H9 and 9003 sizes for high beam operation and H11 and 9003 sizes for low beam operation. The replacement chart covers vehicle production spanning 1986 to 2020 with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The 9003 bulb is the most widely used type across the Harley-Davidson FLHT Electra Glide Standard headlight specifications, covering both high beam and low beam positions for the 1986-1987 and 1995-2009 model years.
The 9003 is an ANSI-standard dual-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V with a 60W high beam filament and a 55W low beam filament, using a P43t base. Its dual-filament design means a single physical bulb serves both beam functions in the positions where it is specified.
For the 2020 model year, the Harley-Davidson FLHT Electra Glide Standard uses separate single-filament bulbs for each beam: an H9 for the high beam and an H11 for the low beam, replacing the dual-filament 9003 arrangement used in earlier years.
The H9 is an ECE-standard single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, fitted with a PGJ19-5 base. It carries approval for use in the United States as well as European and worldwide markets.
The H11 is an ECE-standard single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W, fitted with a PGJ19-2 base. Like the H9, it holds approval for use in the United States in addition to European and worldwide markets.
The H9 and H11 share a similar base family designation but use different base types, PGJ19-5 and PGJ19-2 respectively, making them physically non-interchangeable with each other despite their related naming convention.
The 9003 and H4 bulb types share the same P43t base and are often considered interchangeable, though the 9003 designation reflects the ANSI standard while H4 reflects the ECE standard for what is otherwise a functionally equivalent dual-filament halogen bulb.
Because the 2020 model year uses single-filament H9 and H11 bulbs rather than the dual-filament 9003, substituting a 9003 into the 2020 high beam or low beam socket would involve a base mismatch, as the PGJ19-5 and PGJ19-2 bases are not compatible with the P43t socket.
