GMC Yukon XL high beam headlight bulbs use 9005 size, while low beam headlight bulbs use H11 or D3S size. The replacement chart covers 2015 to 2020 model years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
ECE standard (Europe & worldwide). Mercury-free HID (xenon) discharge bulb with PK32d-5 base and integral ignitor, for projector-type housings. 42V, 35W.
The 9005 is an ANSI-standard single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, fitted with a P20d base. It serves as the high beam bulb across all listed model years of the GMC Yukon XL, covering 2015-2020.
The H11 is an ECE-standard single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W, fitted with a PGJ19-2 base. Although it originates from the ECE regulatory framework used in Europe, it carries US approval as well.
The D3S is a mercury-free HID xenon discharge bulb rated at 42V and 35W, fitted with a PK32d-5 base. It operates on the ECE standard and incorporates an integral ignitor, making it specific to projector-type headlamp housings.
For the low beam position on the 2015-2019 Yukon XL, two distinct bulb types are listed depending on the headlamp configuration installed at the factory: the H11 for halogen capsule headlamps and the D3S for HID headlamps.
The H11 and 9005 are not interchangeable despite both being 12V halogen bulbs. They use different base types, PGJ19-2 and P20d respectively, and are rated at different wattages, which means physical and electrical compatibility differs between the two.
The D3S requires a projector-type housing to function correctly. Installing it in a reflector-type housing would produce improper light distribution, as the optics of each housing type are designed around specific bulb geometries and light source positions.
The 2020 model year lists only the 9005 for the high beam position, with no corresponding low beam entry in the specifications.
