Freightliner Sprinter high beam and low beam headlight bulbs utilize H15, D3S, H7, D1S, and D3S sizes depending on model configuration and production specifications. The replacement chart covers 2002 through 2021 model years with corresponding bulb size data.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
ECE standard (Europe & worldwide). Mercury-free HID (xenon) discharge bulb with PK32d-5 base and integral ignitor, for projector-type housings. 42V, 35W.
The H7 bulb is the most frequently specified type across the Freightliner Sprinter headlight data, appearing in both high beam and low beam positions across multiple model years and headlamp system variants, making it the dominant halogen bulb type in these specifications.
The H15 bulb, specified for the high beam position on 2019-2021 Freightliner Sprinter models equipped with halogen capsule headlamps, is a dual-filament bulb that combines a high-wattage high beam filament with a lower-wattage daytime running light filament in a single housing. It is not interchangeable with single-filament H7 bulbs used in earlier halogen high beam applications.
The D1S and D3S bulbs are High-Intensity Discharge (HID) types, also referred to as xenon bulbs. Both produce light by igniting an electric arc between two electrodes within a gas-filled quartz capsule rather than heating a tungsten filament. They require a ballast to regulate the high-voltage ignition and operating current.
The D1S and D3S types are not interchangeable with each other. The D1S integrates its igniter within the bulb itself, while the D3S also has an integrated igniter but is designed for systems without a separate high-voltage cable. Substituting one for the other is not supported by these specifications.
On the Freightliner Sprinter, the HID high beam specification shifted from D1S (2010-2013) to D3S (2014-2018), indicating a change in the HID system architecture between those model year groups.
For the 2019-2021 model years, the high beam position moved to the H15 halogen bulb, and no HID variant is listed for those years, whereas the low beam for the same years retained the H7 halogen bulb.
The H1 bulb, specified for the high beam position on 2002-2006 models, is a single-filament halogen bulb with a single contact pin. It was replaced by the H7 in the high beam role from 2007 onward, and the two types are not interchangeable due to differing base designs and pin configurations.
From 2007-2009, the high beam position lists only the H7 with no HID variant, while the low beam for those same years includes both an H7 halogen option and a D1S HID option, indicating that HID technology on those model years was applied exclusively to the low beam circuit.
Vehicles equipped with HID headlamps and those equipped with halogen capsule headlamps require different bulbs for the same beam position within the same model year, meaning headlamp system type must be confirmed before a replacement bulb is selected.
The H7 bulb used in the low beam position across 2002-2021 halogen-equipped variants shares the same PX26d base and general form factor throughout, though output ratings can vary by manufacturer. Its consistent specification across nearly the full model year range reflects its role as the primary low beam halogen type in these headlamp systems.
