Ford Transit high beam headlight bulbs utilize D5S or 9005 size specifications, while low beam headlight bulbs require D5S or H11 size configurations. The replacement chart covers 2015 through 2023 model years with corresponding bulb size data.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The Ford Transit uses three distinct bulb types across its headlight specifications: D5S, 9005, and H11. Each serves a specific headlight function and operates on a 12V electrical system, though their wattage and base configurations differ from one another.
The D5S is a High-Intensity Discharge (HID) xenon bulb rated at 25W with a PK32d-7 base, governed by ECE standards applicable in Europe and worldwide. Its low-voltage compact design distinguishes it from conventional halogen types and makes it incompatible with standard halogen sockets without additional hardware.
The 9005 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 65W with a P20d base, conforming to ANSI standards used in the United States and Canada. It serves as the high beam bulb across the 2015-2020 model years and also in the 2023 halogen-equipped variant.
The H11 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 55W with a PGJ19-2 base, following ECE standards but also approved for use in the United States. It functions as the low beam bulb across the 2015-2020 model years and in the 2023 halogen-equipped variant.
The 2023 Ford Transit introduced a dual-headlight system configuration, where vehicles equipped with HID headlights use the D5S bulb for both high and low beam positions, while halogen-equipped vehicles use the 9005 for high beam and the H11 for low beam.
The D5S and 9005 are not interchangeable. Beyond their differing base types (PK32d-7 versus P20d), the D5S operates as a discharge bulb requiring a ballast, whereas the 9005 is a self-contained halogen unit. Substituting one for the other is not supported by the specifications.
The 9005 and H11 also carry incompatible base configurations, P20d and PGJ19-2 respectively, which physically prevents cross-installation between the high and low beam positions in halogen-equipped Transit models.
The wattage difference between the three bulb types is notable: the D5S draws 25W, the H11 draws 55W, and the 9005 draws 65W. Despite the D5S having the lowest wattage, HID technology produces significantly greater luminous output per watt compared to halogen alternatives.
