Chevrolet Astro headlight bulbs utilize H6054 and 9005 sizes for high beam applications, while low beam functions employ H6054 and 9006 bulb sizes. The replacement chart covers 1985 through 2005 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The H6054 is a 5x7-inch rectangular sealed beam unit operating at 12V. Unlike replaceable capsule bulbs, the entire H6054 assembly is replaced as a single unit when it fails. It is an ANSI-standardized type used across both the United States and Canada.
The Chevrolet Astro used the H6054 as the sole headlight type for both high and low beam positions from 1985 through 1994, with the sealed beam unit serving both functions within one assembly per side.
From 1995 through 2005, the Astro was produced with two distinct headlamp system configurations: sealed beam and halogen capsule. The correct bulb type depends entirely on which system is installed in a given vehicle.
In halogen capsule-equipped models from 1995-2005, the high beam and low beam positions use different bulb types. The high beam position takes a 9005, while the low beam position takes a 9006. These two bulbs are not interchangeable with each other.
The 9005 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 65W, fitted with a P20d base. The 9006 is also a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V but draws 55W, and it uses a P22d base. The differing base types physically prevent cross-installation between the two positions.
Both the 9005 and 9006 conform to ANSI standards recognized in the United States and Canada, placing them within a widely adopted specification framework shared across many vehicle applications.
On sealed beam-equipped Astro models from 1995-2005, the H6054 continues to serve both the high and low beam positions, identical in fitment to the 1985-1994 configuration. The H6054 used in these later years is the same ANSI-standard unit.
Because the H6054 is a sealed beam unit rather than a capsule bulb, it does not share a base type or socket with the 9005 or 9006. A vehicle equipped with sealed beam headlamps requires the full H6054 unit, and the halogen capsule bulbs are not a drop-in substitute.
