Buick Enclave high beam and low beam headlight bulbs use D3S or D1S size specifications. The replacement chart covers vehicle production years spanning 2008 to 2018.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
ECE standard (Europe & worldwide). Mercury-free HID (xenon) discharge bulb with PK32d-5 base and integral ignitor, for projector-type housings. 42V, 35W.
The Buick Enclave uses two distinct HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulb types across its model years: D1S for the 2008-2012 model years and D3S for the 2013-2018 model years. Both types apply equally to the high beam and low beam positions.
The D1S bulb operates with an integrated igniter built directly into the bulb base, which means the igniter and arc tube are housed as a single unit. This design requires a compatible ballast that supplies the high-voltage pulse needed to strike the arc on startup.
The D3S bulb also incorporates an integrated igniter, similar in concept to the D1S, but it is engineered to be mercury-free. This distinction reflects a design change intended to meet environmental regulations that restrict mercury content in automotive lighting components.
Both the D1S and D3S are single-ended HID bulbs with a quartz arc tube, producing light through an electrical arc between two tungsten electrodes rather than through a heated filament. Typical color temperature for both types falls in the range of 4200K to 6000K depending on the specific product.
The D1S and D3S bulb types are not interchangeable with each other. Although both use an integrated igniter, their base configurations and ballast voltage requirements differ, making cross-substitution between the two types incompatible without additional modification.
For the 2008-2012 Enclave, the D1S applies to both the high beam and low beam headlight positions, indicating that the vehicle uses a single HID bulb per housing to serve both functions or that each position uses a dedicated D1S unit.
For the 2013-2018 Enclave, the D3S similarly serves both the high beam and low beam positions, maintaining the same dual-position fitment pattern established in earlier model years but with the updated bulb type.
Neither the D1S nor the D3S is compatible with standard halogen sockets. Attempting to install either HID type into a housing designed for halogen bulbs requires a conversion kit, which is a separate aftermarket modification not reflected in the factory specifications.
