The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 headlight bulb size chart specifies high beam and low beam bulb sizes of D1S and H7 for the vehicle. The replacement chart covers 2013 to 2015 production years with corresponding bulb size data.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 accepts two distinct headlight systems across the 2013-2015 model years: HID (High-Intensity Discharge) xenon headlamps using the D1S bulb, and halogen capsule headlamps using the H7 bulb. Both systems apply to high beam and low beam positions.
The D1S is an ECE-standard HID xenon discharge bulb rated at 85V and 35W. It uses a PK32d-2 base and incorporates an integral ignitor, making it designed specifically for projector-type housings.
Because the D1S includes a built-in ignitor, it is not interchangeable with other discharge bulb types that require a separate external ignitor. Substituting an incompatible discharge bulb risks improper fitment and electrical mismatch.
The H7 is a single-filament halogen bulb rated at 12V and 55W, fitted with a PX26d base. It carries ECE approval for use in Europe and worldwide markets, and is also approved for use in the United States and Japan.
The H7 and D1S operate on fundamentally different electrical principles. The H7 runs on a standard 12V vehicle circuit, while the D1S requires 85V and relies on a high-voltage ignition system. The two bulb types are not interchangeable under any configuration.
Fitment of the correct bulb type depends entirely on which headlamp system the vehicle was originally equipped with. Installing a halogen bulb into an HID housing, or vice versa, is not supported by these specifications.
