For the front turn signal with a clear lens, the 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2012 model years specify the 12496, while 2006 and 2009-2013 specify the PY21W.
For the rear turn signal with a clear lens, the 2005-2007 and 2009 model years specify the 12496, while 2008 and 2010-2013 specify the PY21W.
The lens type present on the R1200RT directly determines which clear-lens bulb applies. A clear lens housing requires either PY21W or 12496 to produce the amber signal color through the bulb itself, since the lens provides no color filtration.
The BA15s base of the P21W and the BAU15s base of the PY21W are not physically interchangeable. The BAU15s base has its retaining pins offset by 150 degrees rather than 180 degrees, making socket fitment specific to each type.
Both PY21W and P21W carry ECE certification, meaning they conform to European and international regulatory standards for signalling lamps, including intensity and color output requirements.
