BMW Motorcycle K1600 headlight bulbs utilize H7 size for high beam and D1S size for low beam applications. The replacement chart covers 2011 through 2019 production years with corresponding bulb size specifications.
The year-by-year compatibility chart below provides a quick reference to verify the correct bulb size for your vehicle.
The BMW Motorcycle K1600 uses the H7 bulb for its high beam headlight across all model years from 2011-2019.
The H7 is a single-filament halogen bulb operating at 12V and 55W, fitted with a PX26d base. It meets ECE standards and carries approval in the US and Japan as well as Europe and worldwide markets.
The low beam headlight on the K1600 uses the D1S bulb across all model years from 2011-2019.
The D1S is an HID (xenon) gas discharge bulb operating at 85V and 35W. It features a PK32d-2 base with an integral ignitor and is designed specifically for projector-type housings. It also meets ECE standards.
The K1600 therefore runs a mixed lighting system, pairing a conventional halogen high beam with a xenon low beam. These two bulb types are not interchangeable with each other, as they differ in base type, operating voltage, and the type of housing each requires.
The D1S integral ignitor means the bulb and ignitor are a single combined unit. Replacing the low beam bulb on the K1600 does not require a separate ignitor component.
The H7 and D1S operate on substantially different voltages, 12V and 85V respectively. Substituting one for the other would be electrically incompatible and potentially hazardous.
Because the D1S is rated for projector-type housings, fitting a non-projector replacement in the low beam position would fall outside the intended optical design of the K1600 headlight assembly.
